Good morning
BLUF (BottomLineUpFront): Need one docking solution for both MacBook Pro 2015 and MacBook 12" other than 5k LG display.
I'm trying to design a home office and minimize the connections to the monitor, external keyboard mouse (or trackpad).
I have 2 laptops:
- 2015 MacBook pro 15" with with AMD Radeon M370X (Intel Core-i7, 2.8GHz, Quad Core, 16GB LPDDR3, 1TB Flash, 15.4" w/Retina Display, LED Backit, Iris Pro Graphics + AMD Radeon R9 M370X, 802.11ac, OS X El Capitan - Z0RG-2.8-1TB-RTN)
- 2015 MacBook 12" (the first version).
My goal is to set up a home office to use both of the laptops (one at a time) with as less cables/wireless connection as possible. The idea of connecting the wireless keyboard and the mouse is not good as you need to reconnect it to the right laptop every time you switch one laptop to the other.
My goal is also to keep the option of upgrading the Mac Book pro to the Thunderbolt 3 opened. I understand that I will charge the MacBook Pro 2015 through a separate cable but I want to keep the one-cable solution for MacBook12" and potential MacBook Thunderbolt 3.
What I found so far:
1. The obvious solution is LG 5K monitor. It looks like the MacBook Pro even can drive 5K through the adapter (see https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/late-2013-mbp-and-running-4k-5k-display.2031261/#post-24274931)
2. I want to use a larger monitor (32" maybe) and can give up 5k to 4k. Is there any solution? I did some research of the available Thunderbolt 2 and USB-C together with announced Thunderbolt 3. I also looked at monitors (LG 32UD99, 27UD88). Bottomline: there is no any docks which will work with USB-C and Thunderbolt 2 laptops as the standards are not compatible. There is no monitor I can connect to both of the laptops AND connect a wired mouse and keyboard TO the monitor.
Question (thank you for reading all above): Is there any other solution than LG 5K 27" for my needs? Am I missing something?
