Hello,

I need to connect my macbook to my tv, and I was looking for a USB C male to HDMI male, but I was unable to find one. They still have Micro-USB ones, but not USB C. Would something like this adapter work?
Or should I continue to search for a cable that will do the same?

Note- I have a Chromecast, but I can't mirror the screen with that. The HDMI feature would be great- I used to do this with my older gen Mac, but now I can't use my old set up anymore.

Any thoughts, or other product suggestions, please let me know. I need to get an adapter before Thanksgiving, so that I can show a picture slideshow.

Thanks in advance!!

The USB C on a macbook doesn't use a straight HDMI interface, so you can't use a simple cable. The HDMI adapter works by communicating with the Mac Book that it needs the usb port to be in the DisplayPort alternate output mode, and then does a digital conversion from the DisplayPort output to HDMI. This would explain why HDMI isn't listed on the USB C Wikipedia page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_Type-C and also why you can find direct cables for DisplayPort, but not HDMI.

I don't think that you're finding Micro USB to HDMI since Micro USB doesn't have a video component. You're probably finding Micro HDMI to HDMI cables that allow you to use the Micro HDMI ports on phones to connect to projectors, TVs, etc. The other thing you might find are MHL devices that output audio and video using the MHL spec, but over the micro usb connector.

If you look at cables like the HDMI to DVI cables, those are only available because HDMI uses the Digital Visual Interface to communicate, but adds some extra features such as sound, encryption, ethernet, etc, so there isn't any necessary digital conversion between HDMI and DVI.

So all that to say no, you're not going to find a USB C male to HDMI male cable, and that type of adapter is your best bet at this point in time. If your TV supports DisplayPort, you're probably going to get your best quality from a USB C to DisplayPort cable since it won't do any complex digital conversions in a tiny box:
