usb cable for ipad 2

is it just me or is the usb cable for the ipad 2 not the same size as the one for the first ipad?

Apple changes their USB cables pretty frequently.

Are there any third-party cables available? Monoprice used to have them, but seems to have discontinued sale.

Was the first one thicker, longer? I was surprised that it seemed like the length of my iPhone cable. I thought it would be longer.

I've bought a couple of these for my iPhones, they are longer and pretty well constructed.

They don't work with all cases though, as they have the thicker dock connector than Apple uses nowadays.

A lot of the cables on Amazon are junk but I can vouch for this one.
