USB DVD Burner for iBook G4

What USB dvd burner works with an iBook G4? My internal drive isn't working.

Any burner will work because macOS will recognise it with generic USB drivers.

You just need a USB 2.0 CD/DVD drive, they sell a bunch of them on Amazon for example. I bought a Samsung SE-218 (just checked the label) several years ago but I don't think they sell that model any more. Search for it and you'll find similar ones though. Good luck!

I read somewhere on the forum that the Apple branded usb superdrive wouldn't work. I'm going to buy a dvd burner from Best Buy tomorrow and I will post to let everyone know if it works

It draws quite a bit of power and requires a kernel argument (mbasd=1) to work on Intel Macs it wasn’t intended to be used with. No idea if it works with PPC at all.

I picked up a cheap Dell DVD burner from Best Buy and it does indeed work 🙂
