I have one external monitor on my mac however I am a hard core user and could really use some more screen real-estate, I would like to get this:http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Moni...QXXC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308956381&sr=8-1
to hook up a monitor I have lying around because I have a 2010 iMac so I don't have multiple mini display ports. Would this work with an imac because I know the iMac is not really supposed to have more than one external monitor.

Thanks in advance!

That one probably won't work, but there are others that should. OSX supports multiple monitors, even though specific computers are limited in hardware support.

StarTech says "Mac® compatible models available", so check for a model that explicitly states that, or contact the company and ask first. If you're running Windows, it will of course work anyways.

Just keep in mind that using USB-gadgets like those to drive screens will use plenty of CPU, and don't expect to view videos or play games on them. Word processing should be fine, though, and possibly light web surfing.
