USB headset for Macbook

Hi,

As it turned out that my MacBook (bought in september 2007) is showing a red light in my headphone jack since aprox. a year, I was wondering if it's possible to use a USB headset for my MacBook or USB speakers.
I have been trying to flip the switch in the headphone jack but when I manage to turn it to internal speakers, it flips just right back to 'headphones' in a minute. I don't have an Applecare account and because I bought my MacBook in 2007, going back to the MacStore isn't a solution (I haven't got the budget for it).

I hope you guys can help me out!
