Or just buy a decent USB 3.0 hub and a USB 3.0 Ethernet dongle. It's the same thing as having Ethernet built into the hub...

i actually wanted an usb hub with external charger + ethernet but it doesnt seem to exist alhtough i ve seen an Aukey model but according description it doesnt work under OSX, only for Mac
Anyway i found both peripherals from Anker, i dont want cheap and no-name brand

For this type of peripherals, Anker and "noname" brands use the same chip than other brands, and many works with OS X if you install the driver.

Make sure it will survive sleep if you let your Mac sleep. I tried a Realtek chipped USB/Ethernet dongle with Realtek's a OSX driver installed. Worked great until the Mac slept. After that it required unplugging and re plugging to get it back.

I switched it to Apple's Thunderbolt dongle and so far (2 months) its been bullet proof.

I just got one from Amazon for $10. It works great but does need to be unplugged and plugged back after my mbp goes to sleep.

If i pick tb to ethernet, i would lose external screen :(

Yep, that was my issue as well. But after a few plugs and unplugs, that issue was quickly put aside.

For any usb to ethernet adapter?

The majority of Ethernet over USB adapters use the Realtek chipset along with the Realtek driver. So unless your Mac does not power down the USB ports on sleep, the majority of USB to Ethernet adapters will fail on sleep. As I suspect any would do as its a lack of power problem.

And as with USB drives and newer MacBooks, there's no guarantee the system will know it's there upon wake.

With 2 new MacBooks, my wife and I gave away all our USB drives except one which is waiting for a bus driven TB enclosure. I'm quite happy without USB.

You failed to mention what Mac you have. Makes it a bit difficult to help.

The adapter's plug and play with my MacBook Pro (Model MacBookPro11,2) running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2, but it sometimes loses connectivity from the network and I have to unplug and plug the adapter back in. It doesn't lose its network settings, but I wouldn't be able to ping the router, other machines on the network, or browse the web.

The other major issue is that streaming AirPlay audio from the MacBook Pro to an Apple TV results in stuttering and choppy audio. Here's how it's all connected: [MacBook Pro] -> [Anker Adapter] -> [Gigabit Router/Switch] -> [Apple TV on 10/100 Ethernet]. So the entire setup is connected through Ethernet and the Airplay stream stutters. Wifi streaming on the other hand, appears to be flawless.

How do I know that this issue has something to do with this Ethernet adapter? Because I also have the Apple Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter and Airplay works flawlessly.

Someone also mentioned problems when using IPv6. Well I temporarily turned that off and that didn't seem to help either.

Update (18 Mar 2015): Anker support instructed me to apply a driver patch to OS X here (http://www.ianker.com/support/A7610011), which seems to have resolved the disconnects and Airplay stuttering. From the looks of it, the adapter was using OS X's built-in Realtek drivers which were probably outdated or not optimized for Anker adapter. After applying the patch, Network Utility no longer identifies the adapter (en5) as an Apple adapter, but of Vendor: Realtek and Model: Realtek USB GBE Family Controller. The adapter appears stable, Airplay is stutter-free, and LAN transfers are very fast. Definitely a much better value and more universal than purchasing the Apple Thunderbolt Ethernet Adapter for $29. But OS X users are strongly encouraged to apply the driver patch for best performance.
