I have run out of USB ports on Grandma Mac and need a hub. Attached to it will be a scanner, a MIDI keyboard and another MIDI device. I can't help but wonder if the power form the machine will be enough to keep these things running properly. There are powered hubs out there for cheap and spensive. Does the old saw about getting what you pay for apply here?

Just my 2 cents here .....

I used to use a powered Belkin 4 port hub.... never really had any problem running things on it, but daisy chained from the hub to the keyboard, other devices were not running when plugged into the keyboard's port.

Anyhow... i also hated all the cables all over the place.

Bottom line, if you have the room, or available slot, go PCI. I just got a brand new, high speed 2.0, 4-port USB PCI card by Startech, at Micro Center for $17.99! Cant do much better than that. Look what these things used to cost.

i say, go for the PCI card if you have the open slot.
