Hi, would I be able to use a printer with a USB 1 port with my macbook with a USB 2 port? I'm fairly sure you can, but any confirmation would be fantastic, thanks!
 
Yes, they are fully compatible. However, the transfer speed will be throttled back. This is not usually noticeable with printers though.
 
USB 2.0 is backward compatible with USB 1.1 and 1.0 devices, and OSX should be able to recognize the printer within Printer Setup.
