Do you guys think there is any way to plug a full sized keyboard into the iPhone? Or is there a way to boot off the iPhone so I can add all the things into it with a normal keyboard? I am a good typist... yes, I learned in school on old IBMs -- don't need to look at the keys to type -- so starting up my iPhone with normal keyboard facility would be a plus for me.

Just wondering if anyone has a clue about this...?

And I heard there is no Word support on the iPhone? Would it be possible to add that to it, as that would make it perfect for me.

umm....no. that would never work

Yeah, I don't think that that will be possible. I'm not sure what the imputs/outputs on the iPhone are, but I doubt they'll enable a keyboard.

I guess I'm thinking of the iPhone as a mini mini mac, not a phone.

I've never booted off my 4th gen iPod with firewire, but I assumed, probably wrongly, that I could boot off the iPhone somehow? If so, I thought I could hook it up to a keyboard...

BT is the only possible option I see...

But then again, the point isn't to make this a mobile computer display. If it's close enough to a computer you should probably just sync documents instead.

It may be possible to use a portable bluetooth keyboard. Not sure if the existing ones currently on the market would work, but Apple might release one in the future. The site linked claims to work with Macs. If the iPhone truly is OSX, maybe it would work.

that bluetooth iGo looks great. 'Zactly what I was dreaming of for the iPhone.

Dude you are my man... I was wondering the same thing, I hope I can plug in a external screen and bluetooth keyboard and mouse, and use as a mini mac :D

Well, I'm a girl but glad we are on the same page... can't wait for the iPhone as it looks like it does support Word. Wonder if it will support these bluetooth keyboards, tho.

You can view word files, but can't edit them :/

I'm guessing it would overheat, but then again its flash so I do not think it gets that hot as a traditional hard drive, this is an interesting thought.

Although, I fail to see much purpose, but hell, hack away my friends.

I don't get it, why would it overheat if it wasn't flash anyway?

why would you need a full size keyboard for the Iphone.
All you have to do is use your Address book, and bookmarks tab under safari and sync to your iphone, this way minimal typing on the iphone keypad (which after a week i suspect most will be able to use with relative ease.)

not quite sure why you would want to walk around with a full size keyboard for any other uses you may need it for at random times.
i.e. notes, and unexpected web sites.

If you're that worried about the keypad, either the phone is not for you, or you should spend some serious time at an apple store using a demo version before you buy.

I don't know, maybe because YOU WANT A FULL SIZE KEYBOARD.

There are lot's of collapsable, rollable, or laser keyboard options on the market. Just think in terms of attending a meeting or sitting in a class and unrolling your rubber mat of a BT keyboard you have with you and start banging away onto your iphone doc like you are sitting at a desktop computer. Very usable.

The reason I would want a full size keyboard for the iPhone is that I am a good typist and a fast typist, and it would be a way to shrink down the size from my 12" PB because I could carry the iPhone/bt kb more easily. Not interested in relearning a keyboard or getting my thumbs calloused (as i hear happens when you doublethumb on Blackberries) The relearning curve is what worries me as I keyboard for a living.

Wowdock connects iphones / ipads / ipod touches to any USB keyboards

The very product you want is about to be released this August by Omnio.
You CAN type into your iphone via any USB keyboard!

Yes, that was intentional - for others who Google a similar problem and see old threads like this one that have a dead end, much like I did when searching for help. I'm hoping to help those people.
