I have a USB Modem through verizon. If I use the USB conversion cable can I use it? Anyone tried something similar?

You can only connect through wifi.

If you want to use your iPad with Verizon, I would suggest looking into a Mi-Fi.

Not possible at the moment, it wouldnt be supported by the OS
