USB pendrive with Airport extreme

Hi-
I have an iTunes library on a USB pendrive. I had the bright idea of putting this in the USB slot on my Airport Extreme 3rd Gen base station to access it through the LAN, but it doesn't show up on my MacBook. Should this work automatically, or is it more complicated?

The central point of attention should be the format of your USB pendrive. Only FAT and HFS will do. NTFS, exFAT and such will remain unrecognised by APX's firmware.
