USB shorted out mbp?

Transferring data - plugged in USB got a click and a grey screen. It took a minute or two to return to normal. On inspection my cable had split at the top. It's gone in the bin but should I be worried?

If it's working, what else would lead you to believe that shorted out your computer?

sounds like the MBP just did not know how to cope with the USB crapping out so it had a panic attack 😉 It could also be that the click came from the USB and not the MBP.
