On which Mac?
I've got one but I've not used it with my M1.
According to Apple Support forum it works just fine with the Apple USB-C to USB-A adaptor on all M1's.

Shouldn't be any problem on an older mac with USB-A ports though.

Works for me on my 27” iMac. I plug it directly into my IMac. It used to work via my old Elgato dock that used to supply power which was enabled by an app that used to tell Catalina that the dock was there. Since BS the app doesn’t load therefore the dock won’t supply enough power. My point being: are you using a dock? Is it getting enough power?
