Ok, so I have a number of memory sticks of varying size and quality, but some of them are painfully slow.

In all the years I've been using macs, I've never used firewire. Is there any kind of USB to FW device that will speed up my file transfers, or will it still be stunted by the memory stick's capabilities?

Cheers.

USB will still be a bottleneck in that equation. I'm not aware of any such adapter. But FireWire over USB would still be reduced to USB speed.

I'd actually expect it to be less efficient. They are two very different technologies. There would be a conversion of protocols both directions for every data transfer. So you'd theoretically decrease your performance below USB rates.

Firewire 800 to a solid state drive will be your best upgrade....perhaps as a boot device?

OP:

It would help if you told us which Mac you have, what year it was made, and what type of ports are on it...
