My system profile lists the USB Bus rate at 12mpbs. Does this mean that the version is 1.1? Hope I'm explaining this correctly. It is an iMac Power PC G4 17" flat panel machine purchased last November. I ask because I need a USB hub and am not sure if the models that supprot 1.1 and 2.0 will work. Wouldn't I need a 2.0 port; and the 480mpbs rate would be dumbded down to 12 would it not? What if a USB device is 2.0? Would a hub be required to translate the signals to the slower rate anyway? I just want to know what to buy that will work with my machine and whatever external hardware I intend to plug into it.

USB2 devices are compatible with USB1 ports, so you won't need to convert at all. your iMac should have USB 2 ports on the base. keyboard ports are USB1.

if you get a USB2 hub, every USB2 devices will run fast and USB1 devices will run slow. if you get a USB1 hub, all devices will run slow.
