Sort of related...

So I just moved into my apartment across the street from my uni's campus. I'd like to get on the uni's network (so I can get on my drive and use the internet) from my apartment, but, alas, the Airport Extreme card is far from extreme. So I am looking at PCI cards (avoiding USB since I only have two ports). Any recommendations? And these bridges... do they need to be hard wired to the network or can they just be a wireless bridge?

Thanks in advance!

Hey ungraphic,

That's great... I'm really so glad to hear you got that problem resolved. I enjoy trouble shooting computer issues and yours was a very interesting case.

Good for you! Well done. I hope the Airport signal is treating you well... it's got to be light years better than hassling with some non-Apple component in your Mac Pro. :p It doesn't sound "great" though still, I wonder if there is some type of internal or external antenna you could add to really get the Airport juice flowing in there...

If there was a way to give members kudos or ratings, i'd put you high on my list. Thank you so much for all your help :)

The Airport card is now working well, however its dropped a signal twice. Interestingly enough, it wouldnt pick it back up the first time until a restart, and the second time it wouldnt connect to the router until the router itself was turned off and back on. However, it is a Wireless G signal, so it may be the cause of the problem. We'll see though. All in all, when the signal is there, it stays on for a LONG time and keeps it strength at 4 bars minimum, I haven't seen it dip below 4, and thats on Wireless G. I returned the Airport Express today and got $125 back, which made my account really happy :)

Thanks again! Though hopefully this thread will help others in search of alternatives as well, theres been some GREAT topics covered here!

Hey, that's great you're receiving a good Airport signal.

As I recall you're using a Linksys router... I use to have to unplug mine every week or so because it would stop letting letting my Macs on the network for whatever reason. Really never a big deal but if you're using a WRT54G you may be experiencing the same issue I had.

Anyway, cool man. Props to you for getting your wireless connection running great and also for getting to return some money to your bank account. Well done. :)

Make sure and drop me a PM next time you run into trouble, I'll be around.
