    Howdy...

Waiting on my new rMBP, and I have a question about a USB3 Hub...

I understand that with FW, if you plug a FW400 device into a FW800 hub (with an adapter, let's say), it reduced the speed of all the FW devices on that hub to 400...

I'm wondering if I get a USB 3.0 hub, and have a USB 3 HD and a USB 2 HD plugged in at the same time, with the presence of the USB 2 HD cause all the ports on the hub to run at USB 2 speeds, thereby slowing my USB 3 HD down to USB 2 speeds also?

Thanks for any light you can shine...

    Best,

    Ben

It depends on the hub and how it handles peripherals of a different speed connected at any one time.
In theory it should be fine, since your connection back to the laptop is at USB3 speed, hence no bottleneck there. This is the main factor when daisy-chaining devices or using hubs - the link back to the 'master port' on the laptop.
The USB3 HD will still run at USB3 speed, whereas the USB2 HD will run slower, as expected.
