Data transfer is getting to be so quick the files will end up in yesterday.
Well, technically they will end in tomorrow. To be exact - transfers will be instantaneous, but you will be able to see your data in the new place only the next day when reality catches up with transfer speeds. There is an international group of researchers under the WHO umbrella, who try to find ways how to avoid this from happening. Some say a USB cable might have to be plugged someplace into the body during the transfer.

I don't understand why people struggle with naming conventions.

It's not that difficult. Or maybe it's just needing something to complain about for the day?

That said, I'm looking forward to the speed increase using passive cables.
I bought a USB-C extension cable since it's rather inconvenient for me to reach behind my iMac. There's a little note attached to the cable that says

"If there is a problem when connected to your device, please reverse the Female connector of the USB C extension cable."

Pure genius. I'm sure it took the combined minds of Apple, Microsoft, etc. to come up with that.

So will the 80Gb/s speed be labeled USB UltraSpeed, UltraSpeed+ or UltraSpeed++? :p

Seriously, happy to see even faster speeds. Will we now see a corresponding ThunderBolt 5 with 80Gb/s?

This is their chance to make clear all of the USB stuff. Call it USB5 and make it standard without all of these different types and versions. Make a fancy updated logo and make the plastic on the inside red or some other distinctive color. If it’s red, it does the thing.

Who else remembers good 'ole lap link for MS DOS. 115.2k felt crazy fast back then. LOL

Could just call it USB 5 and move away from this daft situation we are in with multiple things being called the same thing.
Yeah, why not just call it USB5? This is why the Wii U failed, you all know this, why are you making things so confusing with the names of things?

I'm still waiting on USB 4.12.208 Pro Plus Extreme Version 2.17.857 U 3D GOTY Edition Premium Type-C Micro.

It will make sense eventually only for external drives and very high resolution displays.

I wish we could see wireless going to insane speeds.

Imagine a world without cables, wireless 8K displays and wireless GPUs 😂
