If Apple doesn’t launch the iPhone 12 with USBC I’ll be disappointed since the new iPad Air has it. Come on Apple!

Not that I know of. It’s still lightning for the entry iPad

This is related to the Apple Pencil. The entry iPad does not have the modern flat-sided design. So the 2nd generation Apple Pencil cannot be supported for magnetic attachment and inductive charging. So the entry iPad can only support the 1st generation Apple Pencil. So it needs a lightning port.

It is other end of cable that concerns me - like most I have many many power cubes that plug in and the cable plugs into it from the phone - as well as for CarPlay etc. Hotels, airplanes, building have USB-A power connections. If the other end of the USB-C is USB-C or? not USB-A then people will have to buy new power and bringing cables to connect to the rest of the world. If only C at one end then I'll only have to buy a few new cables.

Or just use your existing USB-A to Lightning cable with your USB-A power adapter and leave the new USB-C to Lightning cable that came with your iPhone 12 in the box. Pretty simple.

It's long beyond the time to move past USB-A. Time to bite the bullet and move everything to C and we'll have a better universal standard for the next 25 years.

The iPhone will go portless. The iPad won’t.

That’s the reason why Apple is moving to USB-C on the iPad, but not on the iPhone.

Not that I disagree but it taken so long for places to put charging stations in how long will it take to replace them with C ports. I go to 2 different gyms and both have equipment with the old large iPhone connectors.

I suspect that USB-C won't last 5 years as a standard before -D or something else appears. Nothing lasts 25 years anymore

Even if the iPhone is eventually going portless there’s still no excuse for not using USB-C in the interim few years. It will be a real disgrace if they continue to lumber us with Lightning. I would like to be able to charge my iPhone and iPad with the same cable.
