iPhone 12 Use a 29/30W adapter to get the fastest charging

Based on a test using 34 different 30W adapters, the iPhone 12 pulls between 22-24W during charging.

20w charges at 20w; I guess the study is trying to determine at how many watts the iPhone 12 is capable of charging at beyond 20 using higher watt chargers. Seems like 24w is that limit.

Yes, they did the same last last year. To get the absolute fastest charging speed, get the 29/30W adapter.

If it same as iPhone 11, power draw above 20W last for a very very short time. I think this picture explain easily how power draw evolves when charging

In short, a 30W don't damage battery ofc and you can expect a very slight speed boost just at the very beginning vs 20W but it will be very very negligeable.

If you buy a power adapter only for iPhone 12, you should probably go for 20W to have a smaller charger.
If you can take advantage of the extra 10W for other devices, then sure consider a 30W to have a more versatile power adapter.

the speed difference is 12 sec on 2.25 hours charge for a bigger power brick. This is not convincing.

Plus the speed difference around 1hour mark can't be a power-related issue (20W+ only during the first 20min of charge) so results will change if using an other adapter or even probably just repeat the test with same stuff

If you want to charge only an iPhone getting over 20W is really perfect...

I still use the 29 watt adapter I got with my 2016 Macbook. Sold the laptop but kept the power brick and have been using it to fast charge my Xs Max. Will use it to charge my new 12 Pro Max as well.

You're welcome if you have 18/20W usb-c power adapter just keep it for sure!
