Okay - so I want to leave my old, jail broken, iPhone 8 permanently connected to my CarPlay. It doesn’t have a sim in it. When I get in the truck it connects to the hotspot from my iPhone 11 and works just fine.

unfortunately the phone and text messaging apps do not work. When I go into settings under iMessage, the phone number is grayed out with a spinning icon next to it.

i was hoping this would work exactly the way my iPad does. When the phone rings on the iPhone it also rings on the iPad. I get a text message, the message shows up on all my devices.

Is that possible?

Without some form of internet connection to the iPhone 8, there is no way for it to receive the phone calls and messages as your iPad does.
For this kind of usage, a data enabled SIM in your iPhone 8 would be the best way to enable the features that you are looking for.

Replace the phone number in iMessages with an email that's connected to the account.

Have you set up FaceTime?

success!

Okay, i pulled the sim from my new phone, put it in the old phone and did a setup -then I pulled the SIM card and put it back in my new phone and all the settings stayed intact. Both texts and phone calls pass through just like they do on my iPad.

I now have my old iPhone 8 setup with carbridge and SBFlip, hidden away and connected to my truck. When I get in the truck - it automatically finds my hotspot and connects to wifi.

I have all the benefits of CarPlay/Carbridge without having to:

1) fumble with wires to connect my phone amd enable CarPlay in my truck or;
2) Jailbreak my main phone (that has to connect to my company MDM) gettign the advantage of carbridge!

Ready for my Colorado Road trip next month!

Huh, I'm curious, how do you set the phone to automatically connect to your iPhone 11's hotspot without having to initiate the connection or go into settings on the iPhone 11 to manually turn it on?

Pretty sure you need to leave the hotspot on for it to automatically connect, does that work with a required password?
