couldn't see a thread specificially for this (which i saw on Reddit the other day) but did everyone know that you can programme any old remote control to use as an apple tv remote? excellent if your tv remote has a second setting which you can programme to... i have just set mine up with an old surround sound tv remote for those times the official remote goes missing.

can add other functionality too like skip, fast forward etc

go to settings >> general >> remotes >> learn remote

then just follow instructions!

hope this helps some out, i have had my ATV3 for years and did not know about this!

Hmm. I guess I got lucky I stumbled across this what feels like year(s) ago.

I use a Logitech all-in-one type remote. Its very convenient to use just one remote for my entire setup.

Yeah i did it on my TV as it has dual functions like, DVD, DR and i can just press a button and then program it.

Works well most of the time.

I just replaced my LG receiver with a new Harman Kardon BDS 580 and the remote controls Apple TV right out of the box. No extra programming needed.

The ergonomics isn't as pleasant as an Apple TV remote but it's still awesome to be able to control everything with one remote.
