Hi Guys.

I want to use my Apple TV simply to stream music to my speakers. Is there a way i can do that, without having a monitor connected to the Apple TV?

thank you

Works fine. I have a "Music" setting on the remote that just turns the amp on and sets the input. I usually stream from my Mac so I can use the iTunes equalizer (it's much easier than accessing my amps controls). Of course, you can stream from an iOS device too.

Using the iOS Remote app, you can stream directly to the Apple TV through iTunes Radio or music shared from a computer of iOS app

You probably would need to connect it to a display to do he setup, though.

You will need a display to configure the Apple TV. If all you want is AirPlay to non-AirPlay speakers, the AirPort Express is what you need.

and...
• if your stereo has an hdmi connection use an hdmi cable
• if your stereo has RCA connection use a toslink cable from the Apple TV to a cheap DAC (digital to analogue convertor) then RCA to the stereo.
• if just using wireless e.g. bluetooth speakers and no stereo, pair your bluetooth device with the Apple TV
• regardless you stream from your IOS device direct to Apple TV or via airplay from a mac computer, if airplay not supported download Air Parrot which does the same thing including screen mirroring for earlier macs

im confused about this:
"if your stereo has RCA connection use a toslink cable from the Apple TV to a cheap DAC (digital to analogue convertor) then RCA to the stereo."

Why not just use an RCA to RCA

this?

The Apple TV does not have an RCA out, only a digital out. I second GGJstudios's suggestion of an AirPort Express. It would seem to fit what you're looking to acomplish better than the Apple TV. Unless you want to eventually use the Apple TV for video as well.

Yup. I do so all the time.

That's not RCA. It's TOSlink with a mini TOSlink adapter (optical).

This is RCA:
