The iPhone is a great camera but I prefer to bring my Canon as it offers better photo quality, plus it is super thin and light so not a big burden. Although the iPhone 5 camera is quite great.

I spent 2 weeks in the Bahamas and Orlando last month. The only camera I brought was my iPhone 5S and almost every single picture turned out great. Not only during the day, but during sunrise, sunset and even outside at night. The only thing I realized is it takes some patience to get it just right, but when you do its golden.

Hey all, I'm leaving to travel around Europe for a few months and want to know if you guys think I can use my iPhone 5 as my primary camera.

I'm not big into photography but will be taking pictures along the way. My current camera is a sony cybershot 14.1mp. Check it out here.

I've had the camera for two years and probably used it twice -- which goes to show how much I actually take pictures.

So, will the iPhone 5 camera/video quality suffice or should I bring along my sony?
Take the camera with you.

My iPhone 5 took some wonderful honeymoon pictures in Hawaii which my wife and I have enjoyed viewing over and over again. Of course the optimal lighting conditions of a place like Hawaii plays into a smartphone's strengths. I could never have lugged around a DLSR while zip lining, kayaking, or biking.

If you're planning on making any prints after your vacation, the iPhone will suffice, but I have never personally printed any images from my iPhone. IQ is big for me, so I basically would only use my iPhone to take pics that I could share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. I probably wouldn't lug my DSLR with me around Europe, but I definitely would bring my mirrorless camera with me.

YMMV, so it's ultimately up to you.
