iPod Use ipod while charging via usb

I got an ipod nano and I want to listen to fm radio while its charging.
I plug it into to a windows pc with no itunes installed.
If i do "safely remove hardware", it stops charging.
If I try to eject the removable disk, it complains the disk is in use and cannot be unmounted.

What else can I try?

You can probably get a USB power adapter at the corner gas station, they are available just about everywhere.

thats annoying when the power point is a bit out of reach.

also, how do i turn of the screen that saids "connected, eject before disconnecting" while charging?

If it's connected to a computer - I don't believe you can.

Is the battery shot that you spend so much time charging it?
