HI there

Sorry if i have this in the wrong forum..

I have an old Sony Vaio that i am using for work (easier for the shortcut keys and other couple things). I have windows 10 on it and runs fine though a little slower.

I have an IMAC Mid2011 and i want to use the IMAC's monitor for the laptop. The Laptop has the following Ports: HDMI, S400 port (which i believe is a Firewire) and a couple usb which i'm using for a keyboard and mouse.

I saw this website: Use mac as monitor for PC and the cable i use below looks the same.

Anyway i have a cable that sometimes use to connect my iMac to my tv to use as a 2nd monitor (this is the link: Rankie Mini DisplayPort to HDMI) and i thought by looking around on the internet that this cable was ok to connect my laptop to my iMac and press Command + F2 or Command, Function + F2 but. that does not work as nothing happens.

Is this the wrong cable or is there another cable i need?

Hope i have been ok describing this.

Keith

The 2011 iMac only supports working as a display via Thunderbolt connection.

OK so it will not work that cable. Is there a cable from Firewire (s400 port) to Thunderbolt that will work?

No. As I said, only a Thunderbolt connection is supported. There's no workaround which will enable this with the computer you have.
