Hi guys,

Can one use the Nike running app and the workout app at the same time on the watch? Or do you have to choose one? Also CURRENTLY do you need your phone to run indoors with the Nike running app? (Phone on you).

Thanks a lot!

AFAIK, there's no facility to multitask in WatchOS, so no you can't have more then one app executing at one time.

You can run both apps. But the Apple app will supersede Nike when it writes to the Health app database. Apple doesn't overwrite whatever is captured by Nike in the Nike app, however.

If you also use an app like myfitnesspal you end up with two entries for that workout.

I have another question related to this. If one uses the Nike running app instead of the workout app - does it get logged as a workout at all in the workout app? I'm assuming it does not log third party app workouts? I tried a small 30 s run and it did not.

No it doesn't. That's one reason I was scratching my head when they announced the Nike model. They're cannibalizing their own data acquisition and unlocking people from their walled garden of health data. The workout will count toward your rings (because it senses you moving) but won't be a defined workout in Activities.

It's "possible" that the Nike Watch won't be ready until late October so they can work on better integration and hopefully update the Nike App one more time and integrate with the watch better - and health app.

My real guess for the delay is to gauge interest on quantity to run through first production.
