The 3G jailbreak for iOS4.1 has been released. Unlockers have been advised to stay away as updating to 4.1 will update your baseband.

But I wonder if you could use TinyUmbrella to update a 3G to 4.1, preserving the baseband, and then jailbreaking with redsn0w. An unlock would be possible, right?

EDIT: actually nevermind. Just read that it only preserves the iPhone 4 baseband. My bad.

No.
It only preserves the bb on the iPhone 4, not 3G or 3GS. You gotta wait for custom ipsw's made with an updated version of pwnage.

Remember that while released, this jailbreak is in beta. I'd wait if you really need to preserve your baseband. Applejuiced answered the Tiny Umbrella question.
