Use your iPad at your favorite restaurants

here's a voice from the other side, i own a restaurant and catering business and my waitstaff uses iPads to place orders right from the tables
and don't mind people using them at the tables, they rented them from me for the time they are sitting and spending money
break out the iPads, better than a couple texting each other from 2 feet way, and yes i've seen lots of that...

and when i go out and decide on what i want to do to amuse myself while waiting for food and refreshment what business is it of anyone elses? break out your Pad and quit staring at mine...lol

my two cents

It's not rude to Use an iPad in a restaurant, especially if it's being used to order a meal through a restaurants app. Some of u guys just need to loosen up. I think iPads are perfect for these types of situations. It's supposed to go places where laptops would be considered ridiculous. If your iPad is in a case, lying on a table, only a few people outside of your party would notice it.

If it's some kind of formal dinner, that's something different.

dont think this will work that well as many people may probably still need waiters to come and explain .......

well if they've got wifi or you've got 3g use the iPad to look up the things on the menu you don't know or understand, another good reason to use the iPad in your favorite restaurant!

"Rude, rude, rude rude."

Who really cares? I use my MacBook Pro at my dinner table at my own house with my family around.

No offense but if you were at a restaurant and you somehow managed to procure an iPad not only would you look like a major tool (think of pulling out an iPad on a bus, or a MacBook Air on a train) but it would be incredibly rude to the other person you were dining with. Maybe this is unique to Australia, but we have somewhat of a custom that whipping out a 9 inch tablet or any other sort of computer for that matter is rude when dining with others as when I go to dinner with people I want to be talking to them not looking lustfully at my iPad.

In addition how would you bring your iPad to the restaurant? It wouldn't fit in your bag (unless you have a huge bag). If the restaurant had iPads for you, for the sole purpose of ordering food, would probably not only be a waste of money, but would detract from the quality (or class) of the restaurant.

King Mook Mook

Lol why is using a device on a bus or train rude? I'd rather use a device instead of look at the homeless lowlifes breathing turds and alcohol on me!

I am not sure about ordering from the iPad, but to those complaining about people using them in restaurants as being rude Rude? Perhaps it is, However, I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant (including fine dining at well over $100 per plate) were I didn't see someone using a Smart Phone.

I know it's just my opinion, but I don't see any harm in people bringing these devices with to the table. It is 2011, Smart Phones and portable devices are just too commonplace to not see them in those settings.
