Hello everyone,

I’m considering getting a second Apple Studio Display to use with my current first gen Studio Display.

I'm currently using it with a 1080p monitor, but the difference in quality is huge. Since I spend several hours a day working at my desk, I’m thinking it might be worth getting a second Studio Display.

I recently found a couple used Studio Display's in pristine condition that’s about $500 cheaper than buying a new one. The price difference is definitely nice, but it’s not necessarily a dealbreaker for me.

That’s why I’m curious what others here would do. Would you go for the used one, considering the main differences with the newer model are the improved speakers and upgraded camera?

Or would it still make more sense to buy a new one for longevity, features (like thunderbolt 5, new processor) and peace of mind.

I'd appreciate hearing your opinions!

If the additional Thunderbolt port on the newer model would be useful, go for that - especially if you're going to factor in a Thunderbolt dock at some point which would reduce the price delta between the newer and older one. Otherwise, I'd save the $500. Use it towards adding AppleCare if you're concerned about the longevity of a used device.

In terms of longevity, I still use semi-regularly my 2011 Thunderbolt Display with Sequoia & Tahoe - so I don't think you have to worry about macOS support anytime soon.
