Hello, I am having battery issues with my new MacBook Pro - M1 chip, just purchased it and received it yesterday.

By clicking on the battery icon I get the message: "the battery capacity has decreased considerably" - the maximum capacity is 74% when I just bought it new. The number of battery cycles is 5 ...
Is this a software or hardware issue for you?

I have a feeling that this issue is impacting the charging of the Mac battery. According to Apple after-sales service, I have to have my Mac physically repaired, but it seems to me to be more software.

Thanks for your help.

Some users have reported that with Big Sur, their Intel MacBook Pros reported the battery service warning, so it could be a bug of the OS. I upgraded my MBP 10.1 (not officially upgradable) and got the same warning with betas 9-10. Installing the last release of Big Sur the warning has disappeared and, despite its age (249 cycles, 8 years old), now the status of the battery is good, so at the beginning I thought it was a matter of the patched os, but later I found out some other reports of this phenomenon. You could try Coconut Battery to check whether it shows a battery issue or not.

Note that Coconut Battery may need some updates. The preferences window is blank. It also seems to be showing incorrect capacity data on my M1 MacBook Air:

[EDIT] Updated and working correctly now! My design capacity now shows 99.6%

Same here

EDIT: There's a beta-version for M1 and it's working fine...

Mine is at 98.5% after 2 cycle counts. Maybe it needs more reads or im just unlucky.

Macbook Air here, M1, after few hours 75% maximum capacity, dunno if it is a bug or not, but i am now at 35% with 5h50m of usage.
Could someone share the M1 coconut link?
Thanks

Still big battery problems on my side (MBP - M1), no update coming I contacted Apple they will fix the Mac for me. Coconut gives me changing news all the time. The last big bug, my battery remains blocked at 100% for a very long time and then decreases entirely in 1 hour. I hope the repair will be effective.
