Have an offer to buy a sparingly used MA896LL/A in a good condition. Manufacturing date is week 45 2007 ( oct 2007 ). 2.4 Ghz , C2D, 2 GIG RAM and 160GB HDD, Nvidia Getforce 8600 GT.

Price quoted is around 1200$ .. worthy ? please advise.

Does it have Apple Care? If not, I think it's a bit too much. I've seen Early 2008 MBPs with similar specs but with a 200GB HDD and multi-touch trackpad go for the same price in the forums and maybe $1400-1500 on eBay.

Try to drop the price to $1000-1050. Then again if it's in good condition with a matte display ... it's worth the $1200 just because "classic" MBPs are hard to find.

I think all the 8600M GTs in the non-unibody MBPs are bad and Apple offers a 2 year warranty to fix them whenever they fail.

    Thank y'all for the feedback.

It has the matte display and the usage till date has been about 400 hrs in total. No apple care.

and yes I am aware of the faulty GetForce card but the apple warranty against it for two years is usefull information..

I'll try to reduce the price and go for the kill. Its my first mac and cant spend more for a new mac at such a time.

Get a copy of the receipt with the serial number on it. It's two years from the purchase of the machine for the extended video card warranty. With no copy of the receipt, apple usually goes back to the manufacturing date of the machine.

You may as well get a few extra months of coverage.

Definitely give the keyboard a sold typing test. Those MBP's (of which I have one) can be afflicted with what is known as the ELP problem (HELP without the H), where the first letter of a word doesn't get typed due to some operating system issue. It's a total drag. Just search Apple forums for ELP issue. Apple provided a firmware update, but it hasn't worked on all machines.

This is just my advice-- test the keyboard. Take it or leave it. :)

    MA611LL 17inch vs MA896LLA 15.4

Have another offer for MA611LL/A 17inch 2.33 Gz , 2 GIG Ram 160 GB ATi Mobility.. The price range for both these beauties are the same. The 17inch may be higher by about 100$ ... which one to go for ??

    Begs your opinion...

...for the $$ your looking at spending, I'd get a newer refurb or save some more $$.
