Sorry, I had a hard time summarizing this problem in the thread title.

I recently purchased a new M2 Mac Mini. I transferred my user account from my 2019 iMac, using Migration Assistant (from a Time Machine drive backup).

The process worked perfectly. However, this transfer retained the name of my old iMac.

For example, when I use AirDrop from my iPhone, my Mac Mini appears as “Bryan's iMac”... not Bryan's Mac Mini.

In Terminal.app, my prompt says “Bryans-iMac”... not Bryans-Mac-Mini.

It happens elsewhere, I just can't recall where at the moment.

I know this is hardly the worst Mac problem a person can have, but I'd like to fix it if possible.

Is there any way to make my Mac Mini stop identifying as an “iMac”?

Yep - the name is just a name. You can name your Mac mini "iPad Pro" and your iMac "PowerBook G5" if you want. Has nothing to do with hardware.
