I recently purchased an iPhone 17 PM for my partner, I used the move to iOS app to transfer her stuff over to the iPhone from a Samsung s24U. All went good except that the text messages we had now show up as a group message with another party that neither of us are aware of. It’s basically me her and a third number in the chat. Issue is now that our chats moving forward are started in a new message thread. Does anyone know what or how this other third number was added to the chat. I vaguely remember something similar about 5 or so years ago when I migrated from Android to iOS and the ten years of text history that I had with one party showed as a group chat message on my iPhone at the time. Again resulting in not being able to continue from the original text message thread. Thanks.

I had this happen when I migrated from an S22U to an iPhone 17PM. With some friends, I would receive texts as a group text, with a third-party number showing up in the group text that I didn't recognize. The only solution I came up with was to delete the contacts this was happening with and re-enter those contacts into the phone.

Thanks. The third party number listed in the phantom creates group chat isn’t even a number that I know or knew of. It’s like me and you having a year or so of chat history, then after migrating using move to iOS it shows a random third person on our chat.
