Anyone have idea for why Apple would include a "QR Scan" button to open the camera, which can scan QR codes anyway?

I think it’s to also auto switch to the proper mode. In case your camera was left in video, slo-mo, etc.

Feature visibility. Many typical iPhone users don’t know the feature exists. Likely comment: ‘Yeah, only Android can scan those code-thingies, pity our iPhones cannot’. “Look Mary, our iPhones can now scan those QR Code thingies! Pity there are none around right now to scan”.

Try to register a second FaceID appearance with the phone sitting on a table and the face just inside the circle: it will unlock when laying on a flat surface with no need to stretch the head out.

Can you guys confirm?

UPDATE: on my iPhone it consistently works, so I believe this is quite the big deal for X users.

I’d like to see them add a lot more features to their own apps including Pages, Notes, Calender, Reminders.

Quitting Apps on iPhone X
- In iOS 11, you need to open up multitasking and hold down on an app to bring up a red "X" to close it. In iOS 12, things are simplified. With the multitasking interface open, just swipe up on an app to close it, just like you do on every other device.

This is force quitting, not closing out or “quitting”. Force quitting applications can cause damage to them or their databases... kinda sad to see apple making it easier to break their software again.

Stupid features for really stupid people who are easily amused?
Seems like you are doubling down on misunderstanding what this is about.

Regarding to the multiple faces for face ID, the goggles, scarves, and hats. It has made no difference for me so far (I have tried with reflective goggles too).
Still struggling to think of a use case where it is necessary for a single user other than this...?

But even so, the face is still the same. So what other use cases warrants such a "feature"?

I totally understand what you are trying to say....but seriously...please...I am sure you didn't come to this forum yesterday :)

Looking forward to trying it out when it’s out officially.might download it on a spare iPhone I suppose. Would never download beta on my main device though

Good plan, the bonus of two faces to use.

What I did not know about until a few days ago: 3d press and swipe right from left hand corner on iPhone 6s opens up app switcher. Cool. :)

That's been around for a few iOS versions now.

And STILL no way to set alarm duration. I guess Emoji engineering takes precedence....
Because those who work on emojis are definitely responsible for other product features.

There is a reason why the discussion is called "Useful iOS 12 Features You Might Not Know About"

What I'm badly missing is the possibility to "lock" the camera settigs. When I pull the phone to take a fast snapshoot everytime something is changed. Live is On, the flash is changed from Auto to Off, the bottom setting is not on Photo.... So I would like to see some switch directly in the Camera which will lock the settings. Thank you.

Simply pointing out that it's not a new iOS 12 feature (which is what the discussion is about).

Hi,
You can actually lock camera settings from Settings - Camera here:

Or to start in the proper mode by 3-D touching the Camera app:

I hope this helps.

Feature visibility is most likely, however it also provides a quick shortcut to the main camera in Photo mode. This is useful if you have your Camera app set to resume it’s last setting and it goes to a mode which wouldn’t be able to QR scan, such as a video selfie.

I can only guess, but the camera could be left in different mode than foto. Pressing the QR icon brings you right into the foto setting. thats the only setting where you could scan that code after all to my knowledge.
But as things are now, in iOS 11, if you point the camera at a QR code it just automatically recognizes it as a code and offers a link to click if you want to. There is no separate "QR mode".
