User login using PHP

Evening all,

I'm trying to create a members area for a site i've recently finished.
Does anyone know a good site for the code for this kinda thing, or do you know if this is a difficult task?

I recommend the PHP bible, they have sample code for user registration (with mail confirmation) and login. All the sample code from the book is available online.
