User password

So, when I got my Macbook Air I set it up so I need a password for my user and I didn't realize that would require me to put that in anytime the screen turns dark to conserve battery. I've gone into the user preferences and I know how to change my password, but how do you get read of the password entirely?

You can turn off the password for that particular situation in System Preferences > Security > General > Require password ... .
