I sort of don't see the point if you can't tell it to use certain accounts for certain features. After I updated it already had me and my wife as users(pulled from HomeKit it said)but under her account it showed no purchases(she has none, they are all bought on my account)but it showed my photos and my music library. Without being able to set those for each profile the feature is sort of neutered.

Just installed new version of tvOS and I am also disappointed. I thought that multi user support will mean that each user profile will have access to user specific content, especially photos for every user but from what I see if I switch to my wife’s account she still see photos from my iCloud account.

Exactly and it will show the purchases associated with her Apple ID. I assumed it would work as such: User A has access to *insert here* from a master account....basically let you fine tune the sources of all the content. Without that ability I only see this being useful in one specific circumstance; when you are visiting someone. And you could already do that....

I can't even figure how to add users via the Home app!

click the little house image in the upper left on the home screen in the home app then click invite. That’s how it populated user accounts in Apple TV

Well, at least it’s a start in the right direction..

I hate what they did to the shelf of the watch next thing though to show ads. That has left my top row now.

I agree I’m not sure what benefits there is currently.
my main hope was for the photos to change with the user.

Can profiles be disabled does anyone know?

This is absolutely infuriating.
We use several ATV’s around multiple vacation rental properties and they’ve made this a mess. I don’t want that “control center”. It was already weird to press/hold/“sleep” to “turn things off”...and now there’s yet another layer of crap.

God. Apple is just running me off so fast these days.

I hate the remotes but deal with them. There’s no mute button and no normal power button.
These guys are horrific at usability and ergonomics.

I’m just at my wits end. So pissed with this “update”. Stop effin’ with things that don’t need it!!!

You can delete them but I didn't see an option to turn them off completely.

Probably simple, but can anyone tell me why I won‘t see a picture of the second profile I added? (was added through the home app on the phone and the profile has got a picture)

This seems to be buggy from what I can tell. It automatically added my iCloud and my iTunes account as two profiles. My iCloud had the picture and iTunes didn't. Well, the iTunes account is the one I want as my main, so I deleted the iCloud profile. Not sure how to get the picture back.

The Apple TV User Guide for TVOS 13 is now available for free in the Apple book store.

“Add a family member to Apple TV using the Home app
You can also add people to your Apple TV using the Home app on an iOS or iPadOS device. The Home app lets you add multiple users at the same time and customize each person’s access by device. For example, you can set up an Apple TV in the kids’ room without a parent user account and set up Apple TV in the living room with both parent and child accounts.

Make sure your Apple TV is added to a room on the network controlled by the Home app.

You can either choose a room when you set up Apple TV, or in Settings , go to AirPlay and HomeKit > Room.

Open the Home app on your iOS or iPadOS device.

Tap in the upper-left corner of the screen.

Tap Invite, enter the Apple ID email address for the user you want to add, then tap Send Invite.

Tell the invitee to open the Home app on their iOS or iPadOS device and do the following:

Tap Accept.

Tap , then tap their name.

Tap Show Me on Apple TV, then turn on one or more Apple TVs.

I've said it before and I'll said it again, it's almost like there's not a single member of the Apple TV product team that has a family or uses Apple TV in a family environment. There's a ton of low hanging fruit they could do to add tremendously to the usability of Apple TV in a family environment. I say this as an owner of 4 Apple TV 4K's and a wife and two kids.

I agree. I would go so far as to say the Apple TV is the Apple product with the most untapped potential. I can think of a dozen things that would be easy to add that would up the usability and usefulness of the device. It’s like they still think of it as a hobby....
