So, Apple Support really, really sucks this time around ... I had a call-back time with Apple and they called 90 minutes too early and couldn't take the call.

Rescheduled for today and they sent me a secure link to send my receipt, a 6-page PDF of the original email. The support advisor received the document, but could only view page 1 because that's all their system allows for such attachments ... I had to parse the receipt into individual pages so that they could see the S/N on page 2. God what nitwits ... now it has been escalated to the "activation unlock team", the advisor could do nothing but collect information it seems.

Activation lock strikes again ... after Apple unlocked my iPhone, new owner signed in OK. But she wanted to start fresh w/o the backup that she loaded the first time and erased all content and settings. Guess what? It locked again, but this time to a different f'in ID, so here we go again ... goddamn Apple get your **** together! Their activation lock database must be a mess if this is allowed to happen repeatedly.

Folks, take note of your IMEI number and keep your receipts handy.

This is so annoying. My Iphone 6S plus went to activation lock after a restore now showing an unrecognizable apple id. Tried contacting apple who instructs you to send a proof of purchase but my POP(paypal, ebay invoice) was denied because they could not verify my purchase from them. See, I bought the item off ebay in 2015 back when iphones would not be available for weeks unless you preorder it or buy off ebay from resellers probably even double the MSRP (those days are gone). Spoke with a senior associate with no luck or explanation to why this happened. Associate also denied the existence of this issue despite referring him to this site. We are in this mess because of the glitch... My phone would still be working with my known ID if not for this bug that APPLE won't admit to. I contacted the reseller who can't provide me with needed info (mobilepros1 on eBay). So phone will sit in mint condition until or if there would finally be an alternative solution.:(

shouldnt you use the receipt rather than just an invoice?

Some ebay resellers don’t supply you with a receipt but rather a printed invoice. Never buy from ebay, buy from authorized resellers to save yourself from potential headaches. Unless the reseller will include their actual receipt when they bought it from theApple store.

if you dont get a receipt, then you are asking a trouble... e.g. when you need to proove that you own the thing and it is not a stolen item. why take a risk??

even if you dont get a receipt, you should have a somekind of a receipt from the service you used to pay the item??

Receipt is through paypal or ebay. This was back in 2015, I learned my lesson. I don't need the phone but still it is such a waste just siting in the drawer brand new. Apple caused the device to go into activation lock! It wasn't because of forgotten pw or ID, should still be working to this day if not for this issue affecting 6S users. I was just in a hurry to get a phone back then, ebay had the phone at hand, brick and mortar you had to preorder and wait at least a month. Anyway, just wanted to point out the issues with removing activation lock for people who bought the phone used or new from unauthorized third party sellers.

that sounds abit odd that if you have an invoice and a receipt, apple wont open the activation lock. of course if you have bought the stolen phone, that is another story.
