After trying to consolidate my devices so my pockets wouldn't feel heavy, I have my iPod Touch that is not going to be used. I might sell it, as well as a dock (that was £80, $112) but for now, I'm going to keep it. But, I also want to use it at home for when my phone battery dies. What should I do with it? Suggestions are needed so please reply.

I have one old Touch that we use predominantly as a Remote for iTunes and AppleTV. Another, even older, model is in my car so I can listen to podcasts while driving.

I keep my old iPod touch on charge for when I have to restore the new iPod touch when it starts getting wonky. Also, it's handy to take on flights so my wife can play Bejeweled.

I used an old ipod in the bathroom for a long time, was always worried to take my nice Iphone in there due to steam possibly giving it water damage.

now I just have a bluetooth radio that i use in there now and connect it from another room.

My 64GB 4G is my main music player in my truck running iOS 4.2 for max space and speed since I don't use any apps. The battery can be a bit wonky as far as it's gauge, but I charge it about once a week or so.

But I also have an 8GB 2G (MB) that I put Whited00r 7 on and use in an iHome to stream Pandora in the kitchen/living room. Works great for that purpose, and has access to older iOS 3 apps and games for the kids. 😎

You answered your own question:

The Touch can double as a phone with the right texting app. We use it that way quite often - so long as WiFi is available.

I use my touch to exclusively play .flac audio for on the go/in car use. I didn't want to clog up my phone with the large audio files. I also like the iPod Touch 5 slenderness, a nice change from the iPhone 5 at times.
