I predict this will be a killer feature when Apple implements it, hopefully in the next update. Imagine a deep press and you can see all your notifications/clock without unlocking phone. As of now, pressing the home button to wake display also unlocks phone because TOUCH ID finger scanner is TOO FAST. Hah, never thought i'd say this, but Apples finger scanner is almost instant.

That's really really cool and I'd love that but will the screen know your touch when it sleep?

Lg g3 does that and is the only thing i will miss from it.
No LG don't have 3D touch. They use knock-knock to wake display. It's flawed because you can still accidentally wake your phone, if your hands are in the same pocket as the phone. however with 3D Touch, a deep press aka simple 'squeeze' shall wake the display.

Hmm.. If true, you should work at Apple. Brilliant idea.
Here's another idea: Use 3D Touch to turn on flashlight. Imagine you suddenly need light... just a simple deep press on the display turns on flashlight.

Also LG3 is hit or miss you have to hit the sweet spot, I found it annoying. Moto x has something similar that works very well.

If it woke on touch what would it do inside your pocket?

I think we are still a bit away from not having a hard home button.
It wouldn't work inside your pocket, just like it doesn't work now if the screen is on, and inside your pocket. The screen needs a finger to work.
