I have a backup of my jailbroken 4th gen iPod Touch running 4.3.3. I ordered a iPhone 4S and am trying to figure out whether I can just restore from this backup when it arrives or whether I'd have to start fresh. (I figure it's gonna take a while before an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5 on a 4S is available... :p)

And if so, would it be "clean" to do so? Like, would there be any lingering preference files, leftover permission issues, or other jailbreak files from before? I would like to preserve my data, but if it means that the filesystem will be messy then I'll just start completely fresh.

Thanks :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8G4 Safari/6533.18.5)

You could use PKG backup to store your messages, contacts etc on Dropbox, so start from a fresh but then restore the backup from Dropbox when an untethered JB becomes available :)

Yeah, I think that's what I'll end up doing. Thanks for mentioning Pkg backup, I haven't heard of it before and just used it. Love it.
