Are your hands really dry? Try putting lotion on your hands and seeing if things change for the better.

You should also remove the bottom cover to check if the battery may be swelling. (It's a five-year-old battery!) That can create a number of different issues, when the trackpad doesn't have full physical room underneath the trackpad. The swelling (if there is any) will likely be easy to see -- or you can post a picture of that area, and someone here may give you an opinion about what is visible.
