Using a non apple remote on a macbook pro

I have a hp remote i got from an old hp laptop and I'm wondering can i pair it with my macbook pro, if so how do i do it? on the back of the remote it says it is an 'RC6 ir'

I highly doubt it would ever work.

Unless it's programmable you've got no chance (and it's highly unlikely that it will use the same codes as an Apple remote)
