Using an External Display with a MBP

Firstly, sorry for all the threads asking for help...but

I am trying to use my Macbook Pro (C2D 2.16GHz) with a 23" ACD and everytime I shut the lid of the MBP, it goes to sleep. Is there a way around this?

You have to plug in an external mouse and keyboard or use a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Make sure that the charger is also on and connected.
