I was just wondering.... I have a chance to pick up a 2Tb WD easystore external hdd for pretty cheap..but can I crack it open and use the drive to replace my 1tb hdd that I currently have in my mid 2011 Mini?

I might be wrong in this particular case, but I'm afraid WD portable drives usually have soldered USB circuit boards. Here's an example:

Probably not... the WD drives I have seen like that use their own, proprietary connector rather than a standard SATA connection. Now Seagate externals I have seen use a standard SATA connector and that would work.

ohh didnt know about WD's doing that.... thanks for the info
