Anywho who thinks citation support is not important has not done any serious writing.

I think that it's a case-by-case basis. People who are doing creative writing, web writing, or anything other than the standard APA/MLA/Chicago-style/etc.-cited sources may not use citation support. Heck, I know plenty of graduate students who use do a lot of their citations "by hand" in Word or Pages just to ensure that everything is laid out correctly (myself included). It would be nice if Apple included this functionality on Pages on the iPad (and may someday), but I think many can get by without it. If not, don't buy it?

yeah man, Stephen King, etc totally isn't a serious writer. Citations are only really used (well, I've not read many cited books outside of college) for research topics and college course-books.

Even in my college we use OSCOLA citation and the ipad is fine for it

I'd tend to agree - check what your institution expects, especially if it's undergraduate work. I didn't have to get into endnotes/footnotes until graduate school - everything else was MLA in-text citations, but then again, my program was Telecommunications (TV/Radio/Media/Broadcast)
