I currently have the Apple Studio Display with its short included Thunderbolt cable. The way my desk is setup, it's very far from my MacBook Pro's nearest available port. I have a spare long Thunderbolt 3 cable from my old LG UltraFine 5K that will give me the length I need. Can I use that spare TB3 cable without losing any functionality of the newer Studio Display? I've heard the Studio Display cable is "TB4, sort of", so I don't want to go off-spec and risk anything.

It should work. Connect the cable, view the Thunderbolt tab in System Information.app and verify that the Apple Studio Display is connect as 40 Gbps x1 link width x2.

If you use the Apple Studio Display to charge the MacBook Pro, then view the Power tab in System Information.app to verify you are getting the same watts as with the short cable.
