using audio in and out at the same time with guitar software

Hello

I'm using my guitar with my mac book pro. I basically connect my guitar to the audio in analogue port and I can listen while playing through the macbook speakers. However when I connect the external speakers to the macbook while the guitar is connected I can't hear anything. Any clue what's going on ? Do i need a special device or smth to make this work ?

Maybe it's a software issue?
Try tinkering with hi-jacking audio INs and OUTs with "Audio Hi-Jack Pro".
